Following our Mini Seminar at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA, the Stand 21 Drivers Safety Foundation, “Racing Goes safer”, was invited by the Sports Car Club of America to make a presentation at their National Convention in Las Vegas. This was a two part mini seminar, the first addressing SCCA personnel such as race managers, track marshals and support crew, the second targeted to racers attending the Convention.

The Stand 21 Safety Foundation’s 8th Annual “Racing Goes Safer” safety seminar at theAcura Grand Prix of Long Beach will be held on Saturday, April 13th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. David Hobbs, the versatile veteran racer and TV expert race analyst, will be a special guest speaker. He will discuss motorsports safety based on a full career behind both the wheel and microphone, sharing stories from his book HOBBO, Motor Racer, Motor Mouth.
The Stand 21 Safety Foundation is a non-profit organization created by Stand 21 Racewear Founder and President Yves Morizot to help educate racers on better safety practices. This is done through seminars featuring worldwide experts in motorsport safety. This seminar is made possible through the generous support of Eibach, the SAE of Southern California, and the Long Beach Grand Prix Association.

I first met Dr. Stephen Olvey in the year 2000, when he was CART’s chief medical officer, and visited the mobile hospital that he had been advocating for years. To say that I was impressed is putting it mildly.
By 2012, Dr. Olvey was now a guest speaker at the “Racing Goes Safer” safety seminars organized by Yves Morizot, the President and owner of Stand 21 Racewear. As a Foundation member, and now giving mini seminars at various venues across the country, I absorbed and retained every bit of his analysis and recommendations that I added to my personal knowledge about racing gear learned through many years as a distributor of the Stand 21 Racewear in the United States.

Military Vets and Racing

At this year’s Racing Goes Safer Safety Seminar at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in April, we heard from wounded US Army Veteran Jon Winker and Vet Motorsports President Peter Cline. At the time, Jon told us how he was developing a race team for which other injured veterans could drive, and his development of hand controls to accommodate those with leg amputations.
We were pleased to see Jon’s formal announcement of “Resilience Racing” and the big plans they have, to offer wounded vets a chance to compete on a level playing field, and help change their lives. Congratulations!

Organized in collaboration with SCORE, this safety demonstration was performed by Foundation Director Don Taylor, with the assistance of Foundation President,
Yves Morizot.
The need for greater fire protection for off-road racers and crews was illustrated by two videos, the first being of the dreadful fire explosion that engulfed the racing vehicle driven by Baja racer Danny Ebberts in Mexico.
